How my journey began

Jeff Tweedy and Molly in Marfa, TX.

“Molly worked wonders on me when I was having some nagging pain in my hand and wrist. She knew right where to work and how best to solve the problems I was having. She did such a great job, we had her come to Chicago for more!” ~ Jeff Tweedy

I started massage my fathers feet at six years old. At seven I started a business, I had one happy customer and all I needed was the set up. Apparently getting uniforms and note pads were not widely available at the local toy store in the 70’s, but my Mom figured it out.

New York City in the 80’s, acting conservatory, stand-up comedy and massage school were the foundation of a life excitement and exploration. Degrees, diplomas, workshops, improvisation, volunteering and eating up everything new was my education. Working on New York City ballet dancers in the 90’s was a training ground for any budding body nut, but for me it would open a door to a world of excellence and drive I craved.

Performance is not for the greedy or needy. It is a world of high-wire risk and exhaustion and passion. I learned early that most performers will ignore pain before taking a single rehearsal off. Most performers learn early to ignore pain all together. Beside being a roadmap for early retirement, I saw potential crumble under spasm and fatigue. What could be done?

The 90’s also brought opportunity and experience and exposure to world class theatre, music and summer theatre. Working every year on celebrities at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, the traveling dancers, artists and musicians at MASS MoCA, Williams College and The Clark Art gave me the opportunity to expand my tools to address the immediacy required by live performance.

Thirty years later I am back in the city that opened that door of excellence and drive. Being a part of the most robust performance culture in the world, working along side the nimble skill of the very best, and being able to offer a unique support that allows them to move beyond pain into passion is a dream come true.
